What a Day to Appreciate Guns Across America

You can't make this stuff up, folks. Well, I guess you can't be surprised though.

And the day's not even over yet, there could very well be more accidental discharges before they finally put their guns away and go to bed!

Just think: If every day were Gun Appreciation Day (aka "Shoot Yourself Or The Unlucky Guy Next To You Day"), there could be at least 1,460 more accidental shootings of the most deserving dumbasses a year. Oh, one can only dream!...

Two people were wounded Saturday afternoon after an accidental shooting at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident apparently occurred at a security check point when the owner of a 12-gauge shotgun was asked to remove his gun from its case. Somehow, the gun discharged, shooting a man in the hand and a nearby woman in the side.

Meanwhile, in an entirely unrelated incident, a man at the Medina County Gun Show was shot and injured later Saturday afternoon.

As the Daily Intelligencer notes, today is both Gun Appreciation Day and Guns Across America. What a perfect way to celebrate!

UPDATE: And there was another shooting. A man shot himself in the hand while loading his gun outside the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show gun show in Indianapolis.

Ohio Romney supporters in their own words - YIKES

Like I said before, perhaps the best "tactic" of the Left is simply to give committed right-wingers a microphone and enough rope to hang themselves with.

Wait till you get to the part on when the correspondent asks what is Romney's plan?

And finally, we have an answer to the question that inquiring minds want to know: is Obama a communist, an atheist, or a Muslim?  "He's all three."

Even worse, we can't even go outside with somebody watching us.

Meanwhile, those damn Buddhists are taking away our freedom of religion.

Watch the whole thing, seriously.  Then ask yourself, if you're a Romney supporter: Can you do any better than these morons in explaining yourself?

Rush: Get stupid, c'mon, get retarded, c'mon

Yeah, I've been picking on Rush a lot lately.  On the other hand, he's been talking a lot of retarded smack lately, and he's never so out of his depth as when he discusses foreign policy, especially since Rush is in the hopeless muddle of defending Dubya's foreign policy while trying to pick out the miniscule ways it differs from Obama's.  (And Obama's is more murderous and anti-Muslim by just about any objective measure).

See, Obama's killing bin Laden was an al Qaeda conspiracy, I tell ya'.  It was a c-o-n...spiracy!

Nearly half of U.S. is ignorant

So this is what we're up against.  By we, I mean smart people.  A slim majority of Americans has enough brains and education to know that the human race was not born 10,000 years ago, i.e. Adam & Eve didn't actually bury each and every dinosaur and primate, who once lived side by side, in different sedimentary layers after they expired.

And -- surprise, surprise -- creationists are more likely to be Republican: 58 percent of Repubs believe that "God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years."

If America wasn't so rich and powerful, it'd be the laughing stock of the world....

GOP Rep.: Only a corpse & a vegetable can restart Mideast peace process

When foreigners tell me that they're worried about American hyper-power, I remind them that the most powerful nation the world has ever known is run by guys like Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA).  I don't know if that makes them feel better or worse....

Polls show depths of GOP's idiocy

This is what we normal, rational people are up against:

In other words, most Republicans today wear their chauvinism and stupidity like badges of honor. And the smart ones are afraid to speak out for fear of being ostracized from the Clan of the Cave Bear.

What good are facts and sound arguments with such imbeciles? We'd have more luck convincing them by beating our chests and banging sticks on the ground.

Father of classical physics was alchemist, end-times freak

Isaac Newton is not the only great scientist who also fooled around with Biblical prophecy and alchemy (he wrote nearly a million words on the subject yet never published anything). It just goes to show that even geniuses in one way can be pretty dumb in other ways.

Or, to give another example, just because somebody is successful in business doesn't mean he knows anything about governing.

Just think how many more great discoveries in physics, optics, and mathematics that history could have squeezed out of Newton if he hadn't been wasting his time on this other junk! It's our loss.

Half of U.S. recipients say they haven't used a gov't social program -- GROAN!

But I pays all 'dem taxes fur my Medicare! I ain't some lazy soshlust, I earnt it!

Seriously though, this begs the question: are Americans 1) dumb, 2) ignorant, or 3) in denial? Regardless, this doesn't bode well for our republic.

"Reconstituting the Submerged State: The Challenges of Social Policy Reform in the Obama Era," a paper by Cornell's Clinton Rossiter Professor of American Institutions Suzanne Mettler features this remarkable chart showing that about half of American social program beneficiaries believe that they "have not used a government social program." It's the "Keep your government hands off my Medicare" phenomena writ large: a society of people who subsist on mutual aid and redistributive policies who've been conned (and conned themselves) into thinking that they are rugged individualists and that everyone else is a parasite.

Negligent discharge - PRICELESS!

"I experienced a negligent discharge," bravely admitted Derek "Tex" Gruber in his own YouTube video. "The reason that I share this," he continued, "is because negligent discharges happen, and I don't want them to happen to anybody else.... I have done that...stroke thousands of times with no problem."

Now before you think, "Take it easy, it's not such a big deal, Tex. That happens to lots of guys," you must understand he means he accidentally shot himself in the leg. He "f--cking shot" himself, to be more precise. (His words).

Now, I'm certainly not sayin' morons like Tex, Arizona state senator Lori Klein, or Homer Simpson should compel us to repeal or severely restrict the 2nd Amendment -- 12,000 needless gun murders a year should compel us to do that -- I'm just sayin' that talking about "safe" handling of firearms is a lot like Steve Irwin talking about safe interaction with stingrays.

"Things just tend to happen," summed up Tex, who ends his, er, educational video with pleas to "join the NRA and protect our rights."

That's right, Tex, morons do happen. And while the Constitution does not give us the right to be morons, thankfully it does give us the right to keep and bear arms. Woo-hoo, God bless Amurica!

Seriously though, watching him demonstrate after the fact how it happened, I couldn't help but fear he would somehow manage to shoot himself again.

Commenting on another version of Tex's embarrassing discharge, @squanto2 perfectly illustrated the absurdity of the "more guns keep us safer" argument: "Maybe if the left hand had a gun to protect him from his right hand that would not happen." Indeed. It's too bad there wasn't another armed citizen nearby to shoot Tex before he could shoot himself.

UPDATE (07.14.2011): One gentle reader was kind enough to pass along even more, and more outrageous negligent discharge videos. Honestly, I didn't realize the situation was this bad. Jesus....

But this one's not funny at all, just sad:

'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Egypt'

So how do American pundits who don't know or care anything about Egypt analyze events there? Through the prism of their own parochial, ideological idiotism, of course.

Enjoy all these way-out explanations and warnings of what's happening there!

Just more proof that in America, "getting informed" = getting dumber.

UPDATE (02.06.2011): A friend criticized me for caricaturing Americans as ignorant, parochial knuckle-draggers with this post. To clarify, I was criticizing the media which gives them half-assed analysis and ideological color instead of real information about world events. I'm sorry that the richest country in the world can't do a better job informing its public; in fact, it does a pretty good job of disinforming them. That was my point. We can debate another day whether and why Americans are ignorant, parochial knuckle-draggers....

Fox News weet niet waar Egypte ligt

That headline pretty much says it all, doesn't it? Oh wait, you don't speak Dutch? Well it's kind of unsettling to realize that folks who don't live in America and don't speak our language nevertheless notice our dumb mistakes. That's globalization, I reckon.

BUZZFLASH GUEST COMMENTARY

September 18, 2009

(Editor's note: We have seen a number of signs from teabaggers and 9/12 protests. Their creators took considerable time and effort to make those signs. But they didn't always spellcheck them. We received a nice collection of these misspelled signs. Enjoy!!)

First brain available goes to this guy.

Yes, those who watch Fox "News" are often "infromed" about current events. But check out the upper left corner of the sign. This person misspelled the country that God should bless.

It is "are" country. Just because we can't write the language doesn't mean you shouldn't speak it.

Hey, no gender bashing, please. Whatever you have against men isn't very nice to say on a sign.

"Competnce" is something we all should to strive for in our lives.

She doesn't want "amnety" and she shouldn't be forced to accept it, whatever it is.

The English language is often "offical" when first learning it.

Do you need to produce a birth certificate to prove you can spell that phrase?

Unlike the signs, this is more embarassing since this message will last longer.

Another two-error sign, but to be fair, six words are spelled correctly.

Listening to these people has been a "hugh" mistake.
