My letter to Obama

A copy of my letter to President Obama submitted on whitehouse.gov:

Dear Mr. President,

I voted for you and I've defended you at every turn, from the charges from my relatives (seriously) that you are the anti-christ, to the charges that you are secretly a Muslim, or a socialist radical, or an America hater. But what you are doing -- or rather, failing to do -- on health care reform, I can't defend. You have abandoned single-payer, which is the only real way to bring down costs, and you've let a public option become a pawn sacrficed before the game even started. This is not a game and Democrats and liberals will not pat you on the pack for signing into law a piece of s*** bill called "health care reform."

Don't you get it? They hate you, they will always hate you, and they take compromise as a sign of weakness. Nothing you can do can please them. Trust me, I debate with these people everyday. Your every failure, twist, and turn is a pleasure to them. So twist arms, take a stand, and go down fighting for the biggest issue that matters, why don't you? What good are you if you'll sell out on the biggest issue of the day? Don't listen to Rahm and your coterie of triangulators trying to find a false "middle" that is to the right of Joe Lieberman. It's a mirage.

Do the right thing and let THEM torpedo it and pay the price at the ballot box. Tell them to "reset" their brains, not health care reform! Stop cuddling up to Big Pharma and the insurance companies that bankrolled you, tell them to stick it, and let the chips fall where they may 3 years from now. Be a profile in courage. If you don't, I won't vote for you again. If you do, you've got my vote, even as you continue Dubya's mistakes in Afghanistan and Iraq. Do this! Get it done! Take a stand! Show leadership and be a President! This is what I elected you to do, so do it! You've got more people behind you than you know.

Sincerely,

J
